St. Helens Cricket Club held a sports meeting at Denton Green Lane on 26th May 1883 and the bicycle races at the event were a 1 mile open and a 1 mile handicap race, there were 3,000 spectators. There are reports of athletics meetings through the late 1880's but bicycle racing there seems to have stopped by 1890.
St. Helens Cricket Club still play their ground at Windleshaw Road.
